Do you need a work permit as a Research Assistant?
- If you are a citizen of Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, you do not need a work permit.
- If you are a citizen of Bulgaria or Romania: transitional rules apply with respect to the labour market. You will need a work permit. The university applies for your work permit.
- If you are a citizen of any other country not mentioned hereabove, you need a work permit. Dutch immigration law restricts the number of hours you may work. You can work part-time throughout the year (but no more than ten hours a week). The university applies for your work permit.
NOTE: if you are a non-EU student, you cannot use the financial means earned by your appointment as a Research Assistant, for a tuition fee waiver.
